Biscuit - [Dry cake] Lets make it!

Biscuit - [Dry cake] Lets make it!
I love baking. The baking was placed with a little bit in the cradle. Family heritage, so to speak. Unfortunately, I often miss the time and so confined the cookies bakery with me mainly on Christmas. What a pity, because cookies taste in every season and home baking beats just about any dröge, precisely shaped industrial goods. I also find baking extremely relaxing. Well, a few days ago I finally found time again and swirled with blender and flour through the kitchen and baked some wonderful chocolate shortbreads (ie butter biscuits).

And who now expects, I post here a sugar-free biscuit recipe, which can stop here at this point to read on (and maybe herealternatively read on). This recipe is neither sugar-, lactose- or gluten-free and is not low carb (apart from the fact that my grandfather would probably have hewn the rolling pin around my ears, if I had come with a sugar-free variant or even dry yeast around the corner.) And no, this article is also not about whether sugar and cookies are very bad and unhealthy and can make awfully thick. It's all about a recipe for stink-normal cookies. By the way, as a type 1 diabetic I am allowed to eat (before the alarm is sounded again). Yeah, that's the way the cookie crumbles! Attention, it starts...

You need:
  • 200g chocolate (I personally prefer Marabou or Tony's )
  • 100g sugar
  • 50g brown sugar
  • 260g cold butter diced
  • 300g of flour

Also:
  • 1 egg, whisked
  • brown sugar for rolling

Stir the sugar with the cold, diced butter until foamy. About 5 minutes. Then add the flour, just knead until the flour is no longer visible. Chop the chocolate in rough pieces (that is, really rough) and add to it. Then make 2 dough rolls from the dough, about 4cm thick. Wrap in foil and cool for 2 hours. After cooling, brush with the beaten ice and tumble in the sugar. Then pull the knife and cut the rolls into 1-1.5 cm thick biscuit slices. Attention, leave enough space on the baking sheet between the biscuits.

Biscuit - [Dry cake] Lets make it!

The whole recipe has grossed 465 grams of carbs, say 38.75 BE or 46.5 KE. Depending on how many cookies you cut from the rolls, you have to calculate the BE or KE then on a cookie down. Simple rule of three.

And do not worry, you will not overeat the cookies. After 1-2 you are cardboard-sat. As is the case with shortbread. I can promise you, the cookies are really good. Almost "Piet approved".😉

Errors in the system - off simply times

Errors in the system - off simply times

Often easier said than done, right? For me it is still not really looking up. The blood sugar levels have indeed been some improvement, which I had already in my update done known, but my body protested anyway. Receives viruses and bacteria with open arms and offer them a home. And the immune system makes a Lenz and seems just to take a complete break. Presumably it relaxed seaside. Studies show, the sound of waves age wave patterns in the brain, lulling you into a deeply relaxed state to rejuvenate the mind and body.

I've never been in my life so fragile and so often ill as at the moment (time of my whole tooth escapades apart).  A few weeks ago I sat a cold so so incapacitated that I completely lost my voice for a few days and the cough kept me awake all night long. This is now almost 4 weeks ago and I still have a slightly husky voice and feel tired.  Immediately afterwards followed a nasty bladder infection. The I had not for years. The girls among you know what agony may be. On the boys: you, the nice rattle along the urethra before I pieselt pins.

In the bladder, a gastrointestinal followed in the last week of infection with fever. Hello? Donnerlüttchen! I can, except for norovirus, not remember ever ever to have had something like that. Some days I just feel so tired and exhausted that I feel this body does not belong to me. Simply because me this feeling appears so strange.

Off, releasing, fresh air
That's why I try to relax just more me to treat more outs, no longer perceive all referrals and appointments, just as far as the weekend. This applies particularly to many invitations that I get on this blog. Of course I am often torn. New and bringing interesting about diabetes in experience vs. the system just relax. Him take a break.

At the moment I need very come down to a little my weekends. This time out I know more and more appreciated and ideally I spend them at sea. There I can usually turn off completely. The silence on the beach enjoying listening to the sea, smell and taste, breathe the fresh sea air deeply, inhale. At sea you realize what it really means to breathe and not of stimuli, but by wind and waves, to be flooded. And my blood sugar thanks me every time. Beach BG just. It's crazy, but my blood sugar levels scratch in such moments rarely reach their limits and I need significantly less insulin. The Diabetes sow seems to be stuck in the wrong body. I suppose it is rather a dike Sheep.

The longest poem of Diabetes

The longest poem of Diabetes

Ahh, we are flashed. And tidy. Our Free Style Libre contest is over and with this mountain participants we honestly did not expect. Nearly 600 mails we got. Is 600 rhymes about diabetes and blood sugar measuring! Actually we had planned to tinker from all rhymes a big diabetes poem, but that would really blow in length to the frame. Therefore, we simply joined almost a tenth of rhymes times wahrlos here together.  People you are really great. There's really more. Funny, thoughtful, sad, thrilling, super good. Are diabetics perhaps the true poet?

The winner was the way notified by mail. Congratulations Andreas! Our friend Scott from Scott's diabetes has gespeilt Lady Luck and virtually "pulled" the winner. Ok, go get a cup of cocoa and what to nibble. This blog post is long.  Watch out, here comes the perhaps longest diabetes poem in the world?

Blood Glucose Measurement and so..

Measure blood sugar
Will I eat gummy bears,
Do I have to measure the sugar.

My Sugar is a little clown
It's always jumping up and down.

The finger picksen I tired
now so I'll take the "Libre" and saving me dat

I'd like some food, I have to first measure

Sometimes I have to say that diabetes can a plague.
Especially the pricking and fairs, the fingers can eat before.
But maybe that is coming to an end,
- Free Style Libre -
perhaps is the the turn!

Pregnant with diabetes is no picnic,
because one must constantly check the values.

I inject my sugar down.
Because good values make me perk

I pickse purely in the fingers,
sometimes it bleeds like a slaughtered pig.
Measure the sometimes annoying total,
but do not measure would be fatal.

I want the measure Libre,
then I can forget prick soon.

Whether Fruh whether late or at night,
on a summit or a yacht,
rain or shine
blood glucose measuring - that must be.

Stinging and bleeding every day five to eight times -
you get used to it, but it always remains an ordeal!

My sugar goes up and down,
in spite of everything I remain happy and cheerful.
And when it comes to me not so good,
I lose still long not the courage.
And when it comes to me times super great,
then I think "yes wool, JA Woll . "

Roses are red, my pen is blue -
I can rhyme at all. Diabetes, you pig!

Oh blood sugar, blood sugar ... oh. I have to check yourself every day, Oh blood sugar, blood sugar oh ... With you I've signed a Contract! You accompany my life, a new instrument would be nice, my old Nano I have to give up, that would Libre beautifully

Am I tired or limp, makes my heart too fast, shaking my hands and knees or is already bad and I can not quite see a HYPO must be quickly!!!!

I like the diabetes did not like, so I hope it goes very far. The Finn and Ilka, are much sweeter than Milka.

The diabetes was pretty quiet and did not go on the trip. But the Libre is very good and that's why he makes me so keen on it.

Is the BZ again LO
makes the gummy bear me glad.

Again I have to measure my blood sugar, which can make a pretty stressed. Every day I have to check it several times. My fingers have to put away all! Yet recently there is something Great. All diabetics woll'n it! A device that measures the sugar without pricking several times. Freestyle Libre is the device, it brings diabetics better quality of life!

The FreeStyle Libre is awesome,
the lancing devices can me times

Smells good from the kitchen stove,
I measured my blood glucose level quickly.

Blood sugar measure be before jogging must,
or I'll be sent a light in the sub-sugar.

No sting in the finger more,
if I only Halle Berry Please consider,
if I could afford the Libre,
and bout passing the piercing pain Chops.
Luckily there diabeteslife.ga,
as is clear diabetics not so pious.
Constantly measure is just shit,
the solution, I win the Libre and get's on my next trip to Germany.
I eat once a pizza,
I have longer what, for spritza ',
better not measure,
but when next something g'scheites eat.

Life is no bed of roses
Unless you look for Hypo only spots.

Blood glucose measurement every day
at the beginning was quite beautiful arg
but now It's quite good
to just poke a bit of courage
with libre bout again so fine
the prick is quite tiny
if I would win here
I taet cheer loudly and sing!

Between high mountains and the valley,
keeps me bolus and basal

It stings, it drips, it pricks, it measures
- now I finally know how high you are!

Will you pale and still paler
drinking 'nen juice - then it gets better soon!

After each delicious meal,
I have to measure my blood sugar.
I eat sweets with the aunt,
I spray my Insu in the paunch.
If the blood sugar still too high,
I think it's just stupid.

Blood Glucose Measurement with Freestyle Libre is a hit,
hopefully playing with health insurance!

If my blood glucose meter again a Hypo indicating
my filled with wine gums Hypo Party socket already is ready!

Finally I can kip longer,
the sugar you need only scan

The FGM, slut,
measures the sugar exactly
Once the diagnosis came,
the heart slipped into my trousers.
Diabetes is what you have,
it is in life you to load! Before eating you have to measure
it you allowed just not even forget!
After dinner you have to inject,
otherwise there's sugar Curve tips! Accessories there's really a lot -
all with only one goal:
Making life easier one,
but not everything can inspire. The one good, the other girl bad,
hopefully I do not have bad luck!

I wish that FreeStyle libre
-! It's the thing I fieb're
st my blood sugar especially
great. Stopf 'I quickly with Nashi full
(Mama presents then the pump,
so the value remains then still small)

In "low" sugar in "high" the syringe,
because the HbA1c is determined also great!

Christmas starts again the great food,
do not forget to measure Prior to the blood sugar.

Measuring, weighing, syringes, food ...
the order is important, do not forget!
The curve is right, the HbA1c is good,
as is the Diab. cheerfully.
The Libre is to avoid pricking,
which you could only dream of,
very hopeful ...
Nu isser as he sticks to the arm
shows what he can do, will delight anyone!

Measure A couplet about it should be.
That reminds me of a lot more to a.
Whether partying, sports or food ...
as a diabetic you have to always measure.
Values are documented,
corrects the cans so.
One would think - always running's like clockwork .
But there's also days on which wants nothing fit.
From high values to Hypo incl. Süßzeug then en masse.
The diabetes sow grunts loudly "jucheeee"
and from the fairs do a fingers hurt.
But sore fingers soon belong to the past ,
when you can have a freestyle Libre.
Until the assumption of costs probably goes a little time,
d'rum are with us always ready strips, lancets and the meter.

To measure blood sugar I miss too often, on something like the Freestyle Libre I hoped!

Blood drop out drops of blood here. Are we really, at some point the fingers can no longer simple. Man stands and pushes, pushes and curses, nothing else happens, no matter how long you try. There's' ne solution funny, it is even obvious, only the "nice" insurance company has turned away. The Libre is simply a great part, if I would have the "since I went steeply.

Oh just good that everyone knows,
that is my little monster diabetes.

If the blood sugar in the basement, Ilka especially loves her Nutella. ♥

If the diabetes-sow again merrily,
the blood sugar curve goes up and down.

If the sugar suddenly faster,
you do not begrudge immediately a glass of Nutella!

I swear you'd, I money to burn, I always remain faithful to the Libre!

My fingers, which are green and blue to blame: the Diabetes! Every day, no matter the time she says to me: Get ready! Get out the finger and give me blood otherwise you go us soon no longer good! These diabetes-Sau, makes my fingers blue! With their tricks and their quirks what you already can not do against? These diabetes-Sau, yes that is really smart!

It's the new Freestyle Libre scanner
for type 1er full of Renner!

It was a lady of Aalen,
when stinging she suffered great agony,
but with the FreeStyle
skin was whole again,
and happiness they can now shine again.

I fall less often on the face,
since often I measure the sugar

Hey, you've already seen it yourself?
FreeStyle Libre is something of comfort.

For diabetes, our sweet companion,
helping us fine art ever.

A device in which I so much mitfiebre,
it may test the Abbott FreeStyle Libre!

Unobtrusive and easy with no blood to measure glucose,
user-friendly than ever before - which can not be forgotten.

Why stand when you can scan?
So the idea of the pain-free testing began.

Overtime it shows you just so every trend at,
great, what the technology in Flash glucose monitoring system can do.

I wish the cash it pays all, test the blood sugar,
so it would come with us "type all ones" to true joy feasts.

Love Fortuna, you please watch the video on "freestylelibre.de" to,
then you know it, how much better can be testing for us.

With the sensor you see much, much, much more values,
and without pricking what it previously very difficult.

Cake, pie, Kola, juice takes diabetics force. Drum applies: whether large or small, the sugar must be measured!

Is my sugar in the basement,
I notice it now with Libre faster.

In my third year of life, the beast has crept
Into doggedly into my body, and there it remained,
'Will there be, do not want to go, only caused me pain.

Parents panicked, because I, the child,
drink tons of water, and so they ran swiftly,
to the doctor and asked, sir what can it be?
What is preparing the child such 'punishment?

The doctor then said, this can only be one,
your child's pain, which must be diabetes.

We tested Pens and injected,
tested pumps and flitted,
blood glucose meter,
to blood glucose meter.

But the optimum, which we thought until recently,
Although we heard of measuring sensors, but only Abbott, were these myths weight.

And now, 13 years after diagnosis is hope,
hope for improvement,
hope for more accurate measurement,
hopes of winning this raffle.

This is not a new bar code scanner,
the Libre, which is what experts!

I would like to measure hourly,
only with my health insurance, I can forget that.

Is my blood sugar in the basement,
the world turns a lot faster for me.

Diabetes 2025 - I'll pee cocoa

Diabetes 2025 - I'll pee cocoa
Could I look into the future, or even close a small little clairvoyance, would remain probably saved me many a faux pas, I always know where I again sipped my keys and much Nutella is really still in the glass. But I can not. But there are a few things that I can imagine for the year 2025, or would like to see. One thing is certain, however. I Futtere still much Nutella at hypos, I'll pee in 2025 certainly cocoa.

Just a few years SPLASH
In 1990, when I got diabetes, you said I only had to inject a few more years and then it would always be a cure. It was, after all, already very close. Very close. Very close. Can this time define "close" anyone? Slowly, I think this consoling sentence with the oh-so-tangible healing every diabetic is palmed in the diagnosis. Therefore, I also also not too optimistic about the year 2025. At least not as far as healing.

Well, I for one am I also believe quite jaded when it comes to such healing News that always pop up again from somewhere and then burst like soap bubbles and disappear again somewhere in the galaxy. Puff, gone and forgotten.

NO CURE - THERAPY OPTIMIZATION YES
Nevertheless, I am confident that the treatment and the optimization of these concerns, at least in 10 years. Or rather say, my hopes are high. I hope commercially available blood glucose meters will disappear from the market and are joined to the exhibition pieces of a museum where my measuring-brick is from the 90s aka Reflolux.
Diabetes Blog Week

CGM asserts itself as a glucose measuring system and is also supported by the cash register. Good, which in turn is naturally first require that the health insurance companies to wake up and see what benefit a CGM has that glycemic control (I write deliberately not HbA1c. And why.) Can improve it and thus consequential damage can be reduced, that is also money can be saved. Quite apart from allowing a person a healthy life.

For the CGM systems I want smaller sensors, if not just a patch which is equipped with sensors, non-invasive → Digital Tattoo. In addition, you will probably drag no longer perceived 4328436 devices around with them and feel have as Lara Croft, but everything can be controlled or retrieve a device. Say your smartphone. Sure, there would have to be relaxed regulations. But I would be quite willing to hand over my therapy as far as possible in the hands of the technique on my part. Keyword Closed Loop. Just have to worry about anything else. This little machine is already's rules.

I decide my therapy
Much more important, but I find first that clinicians, consultants and funds open even more new treatment options. I find it inconceivable that diabetologists and health insurance companies today require more analog guided diaries and, for example, resist Apps. Similarly, there are now actually more doctors have the word CGM or Insulinumpe look first. We have to treat diabetics every day myself and meet several times a day important treatment-related decisions autonomously. Then it should be left to the patient and how and by what means he wants to be treated, and what tools he uses to facilitate the diabetes everyday life and to increase compliance.

Diabetes 2025 - I'll pee cocoa

REALISTIC STAY
Each of us paints probably the most beautiful things for 2025, which could make life easier with the diabetes Sau on the side. However, one must remain realistic. Feels like a lot has happened in the last 10 years, but more accurately considered again nothing. 10 years appear to us patients insanely long time. In the development of medical devices and drugs 10 years but really nothing. To develop alone a perfectly ordinary blood glucose meter and to bring to the market will take 2-3 years. Development processes, testing phases, studies, CE marking, FDA Approval ... all this takes.

INSULIN FOR ALL
Therefore, we should focus on the here and now perhaps a little more. Try with the things to come clear that we have available. We often whine at very high levels, while today we have an enormous number of gadgets and tools at hand to help us with diabetes to live a fairly normal life. Compared to other countries of the world we are living with diabetes in Germany downright diabetes in Cockaigne. And the most important thing above all, we have the insulin ensures the survival of us daily. This is in many parts of the world not so and people are dying because they have no access to this "lifeblood". We all know that a mini drop of insulin can decide whether we are doing well or dirty. There are a lot of organization and action (insulin for life, # insulin4all, 100Campaign) where you can donate insulin. Uses this opportunity and help other people, hence may look confidently to the future and this in the year 2025th

Life with no sugar

Life with no sugar
Every day with diabetes is different, not like the other. And what worked yesterday may today. Diabetes Blog weeks after back go back totally going. So that is with diabetes. Actually, I have every day so my special moments diabetes. Positive and negative. About my diabetic highlights from the past 10 months I have right to think a little. Here are a few of my highlights, good moments ... whatever you want to call it.

1. Hello SmartGuard - Bye bye hypos
Side a few months I'm wearing the MiniMed 640G. I have to say, purely visually there are certainly some room for improvement, but the new insulin pump from Medtronic has a feature to which I no longer want to do without. The SmartGuard. An automatic "Before Hypo shutdown". Ok, that was for me almost the end of an era ushered Nutella, Nutella but yes you can if necessary also on breakfast sandwiches smear. Wait ... that was not originally intended eh times?

More about the MiniMed 640G can be found in this review.

2. San Francisco half marathon without hypos
Actually, I had almost given up hope that I would ever create. With the training for the San Francisco half marathon I go anyway a good bit back, and a real plan how I should manage 21 km with the diabetes-Sau, the be entrained carbohydrates, etc., I had honestly not really. All the more I was pleased that the entire race was almost perfect. Perfect in the sense that I was spared from any Hypo. What I have done differently than usual? I've just made less thoughts and just enjoyed the course (and all water 4km + electrolytes drunk). Taken into account without me, diabetes-Sau. Bitch.

3. Meet the Peeps
Again this year, I could be back on many diabetes events and meet many interesting people from the "Diabetes Scene" / #doc to meet people. Such meetings and acquaintances always belong definitely one of the highlights, because everyone carries his own personal diabetes history around with them, everyone has stories to tell, to share tips and experiences in stock.

And that lousy karma?
Och, lousy moments there were certainly many. Blood glucose levels beyond good and evil after dental work, a very bad for me HbA1c inexplicable ups and down ... But to be honest it makes no sense to break up over the head. I prefer to hold on to the good moments and focus on the here and now. In the old lousy values, although I can always change anything, but I can at least learn from them. But if you also once again Cancer t in a motivational deep around here my personal motivational tips for lousy Diabetes moments. Never push the head in the sand. Other people also have problems. But just different. And anyway ...

Rigid therapy and pickles - 25 years Diabetes, we celebrate silver wedding

Rigid therapy and pickles - 25 years Diabetes, we celebrate silver wedding

Last week, the Sail took place in Bremerhaven. An event that comes only once every few years in the seaside town, and I regularly visit since the first Sail 1986, provided that it is possible. This year, I have unfortunately not managed in time. The Sail but I associate also diabetes, especially with the Sail 1990. Superb weather, sailing ships, sailors and Elendiger thirst. I have virtually hand over hand me a drink stall to the next. En couple of days later I was in the hospital. Mutti had already reported eimmal about it.

The whole thing is in this month exactly 25 years ago! The Diabetes Sau and I celebrate this month quasi silver wedding anniversary. 25 years a long time. At the time a lot can happen. Who would have ever on the Internet (as we know it today) and smartphones in mind? And what has changed in 25 years Diabetes Therapy? Intrinsic light much, and actually then again little. Well, at least still is no way to control blood sugar and insulin. In 25 years I have been the way to the catapults me already about 83000 needles the body. See for yourself. The times of rigid therapy but fortunately yesterday's news. But healing? Nope. People shoot to the moon? Jap!

Rigid therapy and pickles - 25 years Diabetes, we celebrate silver wedding
Diabetes 1990 vs. Diabetes 2015
BLOOD GLUCOSE MEASUREMENT
Glucometers big as bricks, 2 minutes measurement duration. But a drop of blood was needed, which one also could call drops. When lancing device I had at the beginning of the lancet, I rammed my finger or ear without device. That requires a little practice to the small flat bare metal part not too deep to ram under the skin, because sometimes resembled the blood sugar measuring almost a small Mass Acker. And today? Small glucometers which spit out the result in seconds, virtually pain-free lancing devices and CGM, of course, not to forget.

Diagnosed with diabetes in adolescence
Blu blub, kick kick. On (the) Lake Garda and at the competition. Shortly before the diagnosis 1990 levels. I started then with normal disposable syringes. Needle length 12mm. No idea how much gauge, but the needles were definitely thicker than today, and not so easy flutschten as they do today and hinterließnen a few unsightly holes. Eventually I switched then to a pen (in modern beige), the insulin did not have to be mixed, but that also meant 2x splash. For me, the first pump got it then 2000th

Pickles and sweet cherry tomatoes as a snack for the children's birthday party. A solid meal plan. Fixed amounts, fixed times. Whether hungry or not. 9: 30h and 11: 00h, was the time for a slice of bread and vanilla cloud diet from Dr Oetker. From time to time "diabetic sweets". The not only tasted horrible, but also not very good impact on digestion. I remember Gummi Bears and chewing gum, which fell into crumbly items during chewing. Only the yoghurt chocolate bar from Schneekoppe I found OK. Is there even today.

Rigid therapy and pickles - 25 years Diabetes, we celebrate silver wedding

At least they were a good alternative to the soybean seeds with pepper seasoning that there was to nibble. I think it was about 1993 when the thing with the diet for type 1 diabetes a little changed, and I can still remember my first Milka chocolate bars I ate after diagnosis. And added, by the rigorous schedule of last year, that was even a little fear associated with my blood sugar could completely fall apart. Of course he did not do. Today there are for us type 1 diabetics no restrictions with regard to the diet. And that's a good thing. For me, good food has a lot to do with quality of life. Refrain does not exist for me. To keep blood sugar under control, it is to try and learn.

DIABETES SELF-HELP
Actually, I hate the word. Makes me kinda feel ill. A few times I was in such a "self-help group". But that was actually more for parents. Sometime been there once cooked and baked together. Everything "diabetic friendly" course. Today I take part regularly in a diabetic-Stammtisch. Without sugar-free cookies for me beer and good food and nice by talking shop somewhere in a pub or restaurant. And do not forget, "self-help" will take place today almost exclusively online. Facebook, Twitter, forums and blogs. I would claim that diabetics are informed by the exchange with the diabetes online community far better than it was then about diabetes. The community is always there, day and night. And not just on a specific date once a month. Sometimes these online community meets but also in "real life", such as on the T1 Day, I will also moderate in 2016 again. Save the Date ;-).

Why I can not be separated from a 20-year-old pants

Why I can not be separated from a 20-year-old pants
Diabetics pants ... case one diabetic pants. Well, something like that at least. There are a few things that I can separate difficult. As this öddelige pajama Büx for example. The pajama pants I have already quite a long time. At 20 years, it would almost be. Actually, she is much too large, worn the cuffs and the color no longer has much to do with the original state. Yes I know. No eye candy.

Why it can not be separated from the part of me? She has a decisive advantage to the least pajama pants may have, which can be pretty handy for insulin pump carriers but. Bags! And by that I mean for once no handbags or pockets normal (quite uncomfortable when lying on the side), but in each case a pocket on the outer sides of the trouser legs. It is the insulin pump wonderful place and I can turn around and turn as I want without me somehow einwickle me in the hose or felt lay on the insulin pump.

Actually, I think so absolutely nothing from these pumps clothes that can be found in the network and are equipped with more or less hidden pockets for external insulin apparatus. There are exceptions: sleep clothes and running apparel.

There are pockets extremely handy for the insulin pump. Because especially while running, it is not so easy to store his whole shebang. My 5 tips to store the insulin pump or CGM while running, can be found here. Just recently I received from Medtronic a super good running shirt with pumps bags. Will I imagine sometimes even in a post. Until then, I'll throw myself further in my baggy Büx. In this sense, good night. Sweet Dreams.

If the diabetic is ...

If the diabetic is ...
In Munich everything was good! We had spent New Year's Eve in the mountains and I had to change on my way to Hamburg and had in Munich. Ilka had a few days to relax drangehängt and had remained in the mountains.

When I boarded the train in Munich and arrived in the compartment, was pretty cold to me, although the heating was at level 4, also I got a sudden cough and body aches. And from hour to hour and station to station I was feeling a bit lousy.
My blood sugar rose continuously. Alone on the way from Munich to Hamburg I made almost 30 units correction and increased my basal rate by 50%. Finally arrived at home, I just wanted to sleep. I then did. And long.

Over the next 4 days I have only about 6 times measured my blood glucose (Shame on me), all measurements to 300mg / dl. The correction had then mostly so pi times made thumb and then put me back to bed. I just had no motivation to take care of my diabetes. When I think about the nachhinhein, it was perhaps a little negligent, I could easily slip into a ketoacidosis and this is no longer funny, especially since I am also been alone at home.

Sometimes it's just out of distress, that the diabetes simply hires the back and if temporarily the blood sugar is not so good, then it's just like that.

5 things that I as a diabetic does not want to miss today

5 things that I as a diabetic does not want to miss today
Previously everything was better? Hm, like on some things are true (ie earlier than Twix yet Raider was called), but definitely not on Diabetes. In the treatment of diabetes has changed a lot in recent years. Thank God. Sometimes I think back to my first years after diagnosis and have to say ... Thank God is the time passing.

Sure there are also things in today that are still expandable (quite apart from healing), but there are a few things that I as a diabetic does not want to miss and include in my personal diabetes-Happy-bag.
These are:

1. COMMUNITY
I had already written it in a vorigem Post. The diabetes online community is a great focal point for all the exchange ideas, talk, motivate or want to know. Whether Twitter, blogs, Facebook, forums ... anywhere you always get an answer. And even at night at 3:00 clock. Meanwhile caused by the online community also great friendships offline. Before I started blogging and little online was traveling, I was able to diabetics I knew count on one hand. Exchange was virtually non-existent. With luck you met in his doctor's office once a diabetic in the waiting room, and was able to exchange a few words. Self-help groups (the word triggers still creeps me out) I have kept me away. Not because I did not like them, but because they were passed to 90% of type 2 diabetics and served with coffee sugar-free cookies. ;). The added value for me went to zero.

2. CGM
Although the funds have apparently not yet realized the benefits this technique and I therefore forced the need to pay anything out of pocket, diabetes therapy without CGM is hard to imagine for me. My therapy has thus greatly simplified my blood glucose levels are stable, I understand my diabetes a lot better, the quality of life is thereby increased extremely, I go much Cavalier through the day and Hyper and Hypo banks may slow down early enough.

3. RUNNING PANTS WITH POCKETS
Sounds strange, but is true. As a diabetic, you have to haul around with them a lot. In sports that can be quite troublesome. Especially if you look at it really wants to move freely and lightweight. Light as a feather? Well, for a run I need enough carbohydrates in the form of gel, liquid glucose, or my insulin pump, CGM, phone / music (blood glucose meter, test strips, lancing device). Call me drudge. Although I always try to minimize all the tiniest, yet it does not remain to consist of at least need to store a small fraction of these things somewhere. I am glad that there is to sportswear on any pocket. Running pants with pockets as an absolute must. The more the better.

4. FREEDOM
I got diabetes at the age of 10 years. Daily life consisted of a fixed dining and spraying plan, BE prescribed amounts, glucometers big as bricks, needles for that you need a gun license, diet products ... restrictions.

It has changed a lot. Today I can not limit with diabetes largely as a healthy person lives, and shake myself. I can eat what I like, eat as much as I like, do sports, travel, have children ... A lot of it was not possible or connected with limitation and problems 25 years ago.

The new-found freedom through improved therapies, insulin pump, CGM, FGM ... I do not want to miss.

5. INSULIN
Ok, clear anyway. Without insulin, I would not be sitting here now and write this article and therefore not quite fit in the list. But we should all be aware that insulin is not for all people in the world is taken for granted, and every day people are dying because they have no or insufficient access to insulin. This applies particularly to developing countries.

We have to find the time. Insulin a diabetic needs to survive. Without insulin, there is no chance of survival. Nevertheless, it is not made available to all "needy" is available and remains in principle only to those who can rely on a good health system either, or have enough money in your pocket. That's crazy and sad.

Personally, I do not want to miss, especially the fast-acting insulins. My first insulins were Protaphane and Actrapid. Sky ... which has since lasted until one finally could eat.

And about a few things that should not be missing in diabetes everyday, Sarah has made a few thoughts. In the chocolate, I agree, of course, immediately). Follow this link to your article on DiaBeatThis.

Naked - running without anything

Naked - running without anything
"Hey, you want Saturday's Women's Run in the city park to join?" Something like that, the question of Antje (Sweet Happy Fit) two weeks ago. Running, City Park. Sure, I'm in. Antje had won 2 starting places and it so happened that we as already 2 years ago went together to the starting line. Granted, I did a bit hesitant before the race already, finally said the hottest day of the year should be. My plan: drink enough during the day and slowly and relaxed through there.

Good preparation was of course when it comes to sugar: blood sugar brought on run-grade level, tucked enough carbohydrates, CGM sensor again fixed the safe side with Kinesio tape (there is ne little guidance for the Dexcom), as well as serving the catheter pump. I was ready to go.

Capri Sun
Sensortod in city park sand
It started for me with a BZ of 220 mg / dl. Amazingly, gave me the scorcher from 36 ° C to provide less than I thought. Clear. Of course it was hot, but it went well. I ran, the sweat poured. At first I had thought that I would after a few kilometers way past die of heat strokes. But did not I. For my CGM sensor. Plöng. Because the thing was in the dusty hot sand. Fallen away from the leg. Sensortod in City Park (sounds somehow after a TKKG result). Bloody ax. Running to have no control over the blood sugar I find extremely unpleasant. Especially in situations that are unusual for the blood sugar, something like this heat. Since I did not have an extra blood glucose meter case, it was now all the more on the body hear. This I did, and it hurt! Ouch, what was that now?

It poked. On The Stomach. Horribly. Arrr, catheter ripped out, or literally sweated out. The heat apparently seemed all plasters and tapes this world hard to make life.

So now I was not only without control of my blood glucose levels, but also without insulin. I continued to follow the plan, not to let the whole course approach slowly, but will continue to closely listen to my body. Listen to music a lot eh, because to make matters worse, my phone had to somehow struggle with something, and not just play any more music, but also interrupted the communication to Runtastic, and therefore no data is recorded. No CGM data, no run data, no insulin. I was naked !!!

When the body Hypo whispers
I have to admit, the heat was really not without and I had a superior or the other time, if I due to the temperatures a bit muddy felt, or if the blood sugar was moving toward the cellar. After a little over half way to my gut feeling and I opted for the second one of these sucking terribly sweet Sportgels from the packaging and washed it down with water pipiwarmen. Arrived soaking wet at the finish, my path led me straight (with a stop at cold shower and beer) directly to my pocket with my measuring things. 98mg / dl! Wohoo! Naked is running apparently not so bad.
